ABOUT BENEDICTINE ACADEMY
THE MISSION OF BENEDICTINE ACADEMY
Benedictine Academy, a Catholic college preparatory school in Elizabeth, NJ, founded by the Benedictine Sisters of Elizabeth, educates young women to be responsible leaders, focusing on academic growth and character formation in the Benedictine Tradition. The Academy challenges students to become lifelong learners with listening hearts and loving spirits committed to justice and integrity.
BENEDICTINE ACADEMY BELIEF STATEMENTS
At Benedictine Academy, we believe that:
Listen, Learn, Love and Lead: This is the Benedictine way
The Rule of St. Benedict: Obedience, Humility, Love of God, Steadfastness, Truthfulness, Self-Knowledge, Humanity, The Rule, Restraint of Speech, Good Humor, Modesty. Living the Rule of St. Benedict on a daily basis is part of the Benedictine Academy tradition. For nearly a century, students have balanced work and play amid a setting of hospitality and solidarity. Today, young women of different Christian faiths flourish to their fullest potential.
A private, Catholic secondary school for young women, Benedictine Academy was founded in 1915 by the Benedictine Sisters of Elizabeth, NJ. Their purpose: to develop and nurture the academic, spiritual, physical and social potential of young women from Elizabeth and the surrounding communities. Currently staffed by religious and lay faculty members, our school is richly diverse in its students, their families, the administration, faculty and staff, and alumnae. Our campus is located in the Westminster section of Elizabeth. Campus buildings are networked and secure, and the library and all classrooms have SMARTBoard technology with Internet access. There is a fully equipped computer lab, a science lab, art room, gym and cafeteria. Liturgy is celebrated across the street in the Monastery of the Benedictine Sisters.
Benedictine Academy takes pride in offering students individualized attention and encouragement in building the solid educational and spiritual foundation they need for success. Currently approaching an enrollment of 200, the Academy is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, our school maintains its status as a National Service-Learning Leader School, a distinction earned in 2001 from the Corporation for National Service. Benedictine Academy is a member of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).
