Benedictine Academy provides all students with PSAT and SAT preparation programs to better assist them in the challenges of these specific tests. Students in their sophomore year are administered a PSAT test to provide practice in the areas of Critical Reading, Math, and Writing. In the junior year students take the PSAT test, which may qualify them for the NMSQT (The National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). In the junior year students will also take their math and English exams two weeks earlier than other students, to allow preparation time for the SAT in June. An SAT Intensive is provided for these two weeks. Finally seniors take the SAT in October and possibly one or more times during the senior year. An SAT Senior Intensive is also provided during the senior year.
10th Grade – Administration of PSAT
11th Grade – Administration of PSAT/NMSQT
11th Grade – SAT Junior Intensive in May; juniors take June SAT at various sites
12th Grade – SAT Senior Intensive in September/October; seniors take October SAT at various sites
PSAT/SAT Critical Reading and Math problems are integrated in the curriculum for all four grade levels.
The SAT Writing Rubric is also used in writing assignments.
