Transportation

The prevailing policy of the Board of Education in the locality where each student resides determines whether or not transportation reimbursement is provided.

If a local Board of Education provides transportation to its local public school for students who live over 2.5 miles from the school, the town is required to provide transportation for students who go out of their district to attend a private school.

If a local Board of Education does not have enough students going out of district to fill a bus, they may instead provide reimbursement for transportation.

Each local Board of Education is permitted to evaluate annually how they will provide transportation for out of district students.

PRIVATE BUSING

Limited Private Busing is provided by Benedictine Academy (currently only to and from the Ironbound section of Newark).  NEW for the 2009-2010 school year: we will be able to provide private busing for selected towns in Union County; the towns are the Elmora section of Elizabeth, plus Roselle, Kenilworth, Union and Hillside.  The annual payment is $1,200.00 minus a deposit fee of $250.00.  The deposit is non-refundable.  Certain local Boards of Education will reimburse up to $800.00 annually per student.  For more information, contact Mrs. Rodrigues at (908)-352-0670 x 103.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Benedictine Academy is accessible by New Jersey Transit Bus and Train.  For information please click here www.njtransit.com to visit the NJ Transit website.  NJ Transit Bus #59 stops directly in front of Benedictine Academy.  Some students commute by train, located at the North (Avenue) Elizabeth Station, just two blocks away from Benedictine Academy.
