What Alumnae Are Saying About BA

"Nothing is more important in the sciences, and especially to a woman in the sciences, than having confidence and a love of learning. BA has made me both confident in my abilities to lead and achieve and has fostered a love of learning that has allowed me to reach my goals thus far.
I took three college-level (AP Honors) courses while at BA...it is almost unheard of that a school the size of BA would offer that number of upper level courses. It was challenging for people who needed a challenge.
I was the first generation, and female, in my family, which is from Portugal, to go to college. BA's affordability opened doors for me allowing me to go to a private school."
...

Andreia da Costa, BA Class of 2004...earned a B.S. degree in 2008 from Rutgers University, majoring in Biology and minoring in Women's Studies. She was awarded a two-year fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD where she is currently working in the Cellular Immunity Section at the Vaccine Research Center in the NIH. Andreia previously worked (2008-09) as a research assistant in molecular genetics in the Department of Psychiatry at Trinity (College) Health Center, St. James Hospital, in Dublin, Ireland. Her work there involved searching for genetic links to schizophrenia. She hopes to transition into graduate school.

"BA helped me gain confidence, which has allowed me the benefit of going after and achieving all of my life goals. The Academy prepared me by offering college preparatory level courses and expecting excellence. I feel I benefited from the diversity of the school, the discipline learned and from forging life-long friendships." ...

Markeya K. Williams, DVM, BA Class of 1997
...currently a full-time clinical veterinarian and faculty member in the Comparative Medicine Department at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Markeya earned her doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2006 from Tuskegee University (AL) School of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal and Poultry Sciences in 2002.

"BA stays focused on college preparatory, and graduates are prepared for the next step. There are a lot of intangible things at BA that make a difference...a charism that is unique- was, and is- and, a kind of broad-minded, tolerant, positive, value-centered environment. BA maintains its Catholic identity, yet, while maintaining the balance of Christianity. They manage it beautifully. There is a very Christian Catholicism at BA." ...

Margaret (Peg) MacNeill, BA Class of 1962...Member, Benedictine Academy Advisory Board of Trustees; Chair of the Major Gift Committee for the BA Annual Appeal; retired attorney. Peg earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law after graduating from Trinity College.
