The 4th annual Dr. Rose Marie Battaglia Christmas Basketball Tournament was held December 26 through December 29, 2009.

It was another exciting event. Eight teams, including BA, played. Union Catholic H.S. of Scotch Plains emerged as the championship team. For more information on participating teams and results, please see our Athletics page and News items on this site.

The event is named for Dr. Rose Marie Battaglia who coached at BA from 1954-58. Dr. Battaglia was named “Coach of the Decade” for the 1970’s by the Star Ledger, and was honored for her 36-4 record while at the helm at BA, which included one undefeated season (12-0). She amassed a 702-240 career record during 37 years of coaching on the high school and intercollegiate level. Benedictine Academy Athletic Director Mike Jones calls Coach Battaglia “a pioneer in women’s basketball”.
