November 2009
Dear Fellow Parents:
I am honored to serve as Chair of the Benedictine Academy Parent Association (BAPA) this year. My daughter, Jennifer, is currently a sophomore at our school. I am pleased that I can work with other parents through BAPA to build upon present successes at BA and enhance those successes through new initiatives.
We truly hope you will be supportive of the Academy's service hour policy - it provides opportunities to be involved in your daughters’ education and learning experiences.
Each family at BA is required to give 20 hours of volunteer service per academic year. Most families agree to participate in the service hour plan. Some families do opt to pay $200 instead. We hope you will fulfill your pledge to work your 20 hours. Please understand that parents are required to reimburse BAPA for unworked hours at the rate of $10 per hour.
We ask that you thoroughly read the policy, sign where indicated, and check those activities which will allow you to earn your service hours. If you haven’t already done so, please take time to return the copy marked “SCHOOL” to BA, and keep the copy marked “FAMILY” for your records.
Money raised by BAPA helps support school extra-curricular programs, athletics and any other activities at BA which are all a part of our daughters’ growing experience at the Academy.
We started things off this fall with the “BAPA and Administration Welcome Back Night” on Tuesday, September 22. We were happy to see you there. A lot of important information from BAPA, the Guidance Office, our Principal and Assistant Principal, was distributed. The “Welcome Back Family Cookout” on Saturday, September 26 also was a great day and an excellent way to meet other families while enjoying terrific food, games and prizes. I was pleased to meet each of you as we kicked off the 2009-10 school year and began to become more involved at BA and become supportive of BAPA’s endeavors.
Sincerely,
Art Abbondante, BAPA Chair
