Serious About Anatomy & Physiology

First Session Dates

  • Tuesday, December 5, 2017
  • Tuesday, December 12, 2017
  • Tuesday, December 19, 2017

Your first class will involve using computer graphics to explore human anatomy. Dr. Bernard and his Benedictine Academy Juniors will instruct pupils in the use of the computer program to master human dissection on the smartboard. Each layer of the body can be uncovered with the flip of a switch, while identification of each body part can be carried out by the touch of a finger. This medical school level program will allow you to see what you have never seen before. All students will be given a chance at the controls. Human systems to be dissected include skeletal, muscular, pulmonary and gastrointestinal.

Your second class will involve using our parfocal microscopes to identify tissues which have been isolated from each part of the human anatomy. A short introduction will help to lead you through the world of these histological fascinations. Imagine looking into a crime scene where your insight could solve the mystery. With the help of our Juniors, you will be able to discern the types of cells and tissue that make up each part of your own body that will change your perspective forever.

Your third and final class will involve performing a dissection along with the Juniors to put to use the information you have acquired in your first two sessions. Humans were not available for dissection, so have been replaced with fetal pigs.  These will serve as examples for our comparative anatomy analysis. Through smart board interaction, we will be able to identify all mammalian systems throughout our dissection.
