It truly was a picture-perfect day on Wednesday, September 25, when Benedictine Academy held its 14th Annual Golf Outing at the Maplewood Country Club. This annual fundraising event supports the school’s academic and athletic programs. The Honoree at this year’s event was Father Edwin Leahy, OSB, Headmaster of St. Benedict’s Prep.
Over the years St Benedict’s Prep has become nationally recognized through a segment on 60minutes, a documentary on The Rule, their winning sports teams and their unique approach to leadership at the student level. However, Fr. Edwin takes little gratification in this recognition. For him gratification comes in helping each and every student he encounters. In never turning a student in need away. In knowing that St Benedict’s provides a safe environment where students can feel comfortable, cared about and loved in a community atmosphere. Father Edwin has proved to be not only a headmaster, but a spiritual leader, a mentor, role model and a friend to a significant number of students over his many years at the hive.
Benedictine Academy has had the good fortune of benefitting from connecting with Fr. Edwin and St. Benedict’s Prep. Two years ago he encouraged the Administration of BA and St. Benedict’s Prep to collaborate in several different ways. The main mission of both schools to build community and empower our young men and women to be leaders for the future has enabled us to build a strong inter-relationship based on Benedictine values that benefit each school. Our schools are working on curriculum, Advancement, admissions and counseling services. Our student leadership teams are collaborating on a joint newspaper, service projects and social activities.
We were truly blessed from the sunny blue skies throughout the day to the more than 150 dinner guests who joined us for a delicious dinner, a Tricky Tray, a Live Auction, and a 50/50 raffle.
